Sadaharitha Group Sri Lanka

Sadaharitha Group (Sri Lanka)

Sadaharitha Plantations Limited, a member of Sadaharitha Group of Sri Lanka engages in establishment and management of Indian Sandalwood which is scientifically known as Santalum album in Sri Lanka. Sadaharitha has planted over 150 ha of Santalum album, the most valuable among all sandalwood species, in the most suitable locations in Sri Lanka and further, Sadaharitha expands the sandalwood plantations by 75-100 ha per year.

Due to the use of expertises, high quality mother trees for nursery establishment and the best management practices, Sadaharitha has managed to brand the plantation grown Santalum album as Sadaharitha Sandalwood in Sri Lanka. In order to further enhance the quality of its plantations, since 2009, Sadaharitha has funded sandalwood research conducted at the Department of Forestry and Environmental Science of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura research in collaboration with Sri Lankan scientists and the scientists of Wescorp and School of Pharmacy of Curtin University.

Based on the quality of the plantations, management practices applied and the expertises used, Wescorp believes that Sadaharitha is in a path to make quality sandalwood timber with high oil contents and therefore agreed to purchase the Sandalwood timber produced in plantations managed by Sadaharitha. This provides a valuable opportunity for Sadaharitha to link with Wescorp, the largest sandalwood supplier to the world. It will also provide Wescorp an opportunity to purchase the high quality Sandalwood because the research has proved that the Sandalwood growing in Sri Lanka contains high amounts of alpha and beta santalols.
